Hottest new cellphone in the world!

Pomegranate

Pomegranate is feature packed. Surf the web, answer email, enjoy a cup of coffee or even practice one of those old hobo tunes as you sit by your barrel of burning stationary after a high profile mega-layoff. John C. Dvorak says "This thing kills the iPhone, Blackberry, Treo". No John, the Pomegranate can't really kill (at least in this revision). Stay tuned for the 30-0-6 Sarah Palin Moosekiller special edition!

Note: This is a parody and a viral marketing campaign.. but it's funny.

Bill and Hillary

At least to me, the game of politics is a funny thing. I don't consider myself strongly tied to either party thought I tend to lean conservative. Over the years I've become incredibly fed up with the posturing and constant talk and lack of action, so much so that I have little interest in or patience with the subject. You might say that I'm jaded or cynical about politics and you'd be correct. However I still love to laugh and to poke fun at EVERYONE in the political game.

That's why I found these items to be so cool. The first is a Hillary Clinton nutcracker which pretty much sums up everyone's notion of her demeanor. She's a take no crap kind of gal who, in a less civil time, might just plant one of her designer boots right in and offending crotch. Her husband on the other hand is a known philander and as such is features a wine corkscrew in his "Lewenski zone".

Admittedly both items characterize the Clintons we know and love (or love to hate) in fine, somewhat disturbing fashion. While I'd certainly consider handing these out to close friends who'll get the joke I must acknowledge that they'd see little use. Frankly nothing is more unappetizing that the sight of a corkscrew shaped erection or the mental image of some literally crushing my baby makers.

Fortune's Favor

Sunday evening was the much awaited return of one of my favorite bands, Great Big Sea, to Charlotte. Despite sickness and ambiguous directions we managed to arrive at auditorium in plenty of time for the show. It was an interesting venue in many ways, mostly due to the fact that it was a 1960s era auditorium on one of the older campuses here in town. The crowd was sparse at first but the seats quickly filled as show time neared, which I attribute to both the city's meandering roads and the lack of a decent bar within miles.

It's strange in one way to see GBS in a venue that's devoid of beer and wine but quite nice in that afterward you don't reak of cigarettes. At any rate once the band started playing the atmosphere quickly changed and the room was instantly full of sing, clapping and dancing fools. Our seats were near the front and for most of the show we had an excellent view of the band and all of the on stage antics. It was also great during one of the final numbers, Old Brown's Daughter, when the guys stood at the edge of the stage singing in vocal harmony with no mics.

All in all it was yet another great show by one of the best "small" bands I've seen live. They played an excellent mix of old and new material and included many fan favorites which had the entire room on its feet and raising a ruckus. The final thing I'll add is that it was an eclectic mix of attendees in the audience. On one hand you had the younger crowd who are more familiar with the new folk rock giants like Flogging Molly and the Pogues. On the other side you have the older crowd who are more at home with Roger McGuin and the World Music Scene. More interesting though were the number of kids at this all-ages show, especially the pre-teens. I guess this is one show that both parents and kids can get into.

Check out the commentary on the official message board.

Parent

I've come to the realization that I no longer have time for a lot of things that I used to find time for. For example I recently shut down my racing game because it was getting old and I have no time to administrate it, much less improve it.

Sad but true the demands of being a parent tend to sap not only time but other vital resources as well. Don't get me wrong it's well worth the sacrifice but it can be more than a minor adjustment at times.

I honestly think it becomes harder after the first child, as I've noted anecdotally based on folks I know. In a lot of ways the stress is two fold. I can't imagine how folks with 3+ make it through the day much less have any sanity left at then end of it.
